Alex Ikonic joins the Roadnight Taylor team

New Connectologist® appointed as Gate 2 offers approach

With Gate 2 offers expected from December 2025, energy developers, data centre operators, and major infrastructure investors face mounting connections challenges that can threaten project viability. The interplay between technical, regulatory, and commercial complexities has never been more critical – or more challenging to navigate.

Conventional approaches – whether through generalist consultancies or internal teams – often lack the depth and influence needed when billions in infrastructure investment hang in the balance. As the connections landscape evolves rapidly, organisations need specialized expertise that can work alongside existing teams to strengthen their grid strategies.

Alex Ikonic joins

To guide clients through this high-stakes environment, Alex Ikonic joins the Connectologists®, bringing eight years’ experience as an electrical engineer and grid connection specialist. Most recently part of Ørsted’s Grid Team, working across a range of renewable technologies at both distribution and transmission levels, Alex previously led TNEI’s Grid Connections Team, regularly advising developers on strategies, regulatory considerations, and project development pathways.

Alex comments: “I’m so excited to be joining Roadnight Taylor. I’ve been following the company’s journey for the past few years, and like so many, have always been impressed by its role within the industry and the culture. I’m looking forward to getting stuck in and helping clients navigate key grid challenges for projects across the country.

Gate 2: a critical juncture

Hugh Taylor, CEO at Roadnight Taylor, adds: “Alex is a fantastic addition to our team of Connectologists. She embodies the rare combination of technical expertise, regulatory understanding, and collaborative approach that defines a Connectologist. We’ve been looking to expand the team for two years, but as they’re a rare group of specialist experts, the right person is genuinely hard to find.

“The timing is perfect too. With Gate 2 offer reviews representing a critical juncture for many projects, her expertise will help organisations navigate these complex offers alongside their existing teams.”

This expansion enables Roadnight Taylor to support 20% more work through the critical Gate 2 review process while continuing to shape industry policy and practice through relationships with NESO, DESNZ, Ofgem, and network operators.

Alex joins the specialist Connectologist team including:

  • Pete Aston (Member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Energy Studies)
  • Philip Bale (Member of the National Energy System Operator’s GSR029 working group)
  • Catherine Cleary (Member of NESO’s Connections Process Advisory Group)
  • Kyle Murchie (Vice Chair of the RenewableUK Connections Working Group)
  • Nikki Pillinger (Co-chair of Regen’s Grid Connections Working Group)
