Philip Bale – Specialist Connections Engineer

“Problem solver who knows grid inside-out…”

From a senior role at Western Power Distribution (WPD), Philip is well known and highly respected among all the Distribution Network Operators’ teams. Philip brings Roadnight Taylor a highly experienced technical understanding of distribution networks, smart grids and battery storage integration. He finds our clients innovative solutions to lower the costs of their grid connections, and removes barriers that would otherwise prevent schemes from being financially viable.

After graduating (1st class honours, Electrical Engineering) Philip worked for WPD, responsible for pioneering solutions to connect increasing levels of renewable energy. Most recently, Philip was Primary System Design Team Manager for WPD, managing East Midlands 33kV and 132kV network developments, including all reinforcement projects and distributed generation connections.

Philip sits on National Grid ESO’s GSR029 working group on the Review of Demand Connection Criteria to Align with EREC P2/7.

He is from West Country farming stock, has a young family and in his spare time lends his skills to helping disadvantaged communities in developing countries to overcome issues of pollution and access to clean heat and power.
