Pete Aston – Specialist Connections Engineer

“An outstanding track record in distribution connections and innovation”

Pete joined Roadnight Taylor from Western Power Distribution – the UK’s largest DNO – where he topped off his extraordinary, twenty-year distribution networks career as Primary System Design Manager.

Heading up the System Planning function, Pete led a team of sixty responsible for all connections to, and the reinforcement of, the primary network (33kV up to 132kV) across all four of WPD’s licence areas. He managed an annual capital budget of £30m, held responsibility for some 500 formal connection offers a year (up to 299MW) represented WPD at various customer forums and national working groups, including Product Lead on various Open Networks projects and leading WPD’s interaction with National Grid (NGET and NGESO) at the transmission/distribution boundary.

He was responsible for the development of the load-related spend element of WPD’s ED2 business planning, and oversight of the roll out of active network management (ANM) within WPD. He was also responsible for the Accelerated Loss of Mains Change Programme in WPD.

Pete currently sits on the All Party Parliamentary Group for Energy Studies. He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) from the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

Out of the office Pete spends time with his family (he has four boys!), is on the leadership team of his local church, potters around in his garden, goes for the occasional run and tries to write fiction stories.
