We’re hiring – Grid Connections Manager

The key focus for this role will be to have complete oversight of specific clients’ grid connections operations – becoming each client’s own Virtual In-house Network Specialist (VINS).  You will develop this offering, adding significant value to our clients’ development performance.

Roadnight Taylor Ltd (RT) is a specialist grid consultancy, offering unique and expert services to a rollcall of the leading developers of large-scale onshore energy and I&C schemes, investors in and acquirers of those projects, public and private sector owners of land and property portfolios, farms and estates – and organisations making substantial, strategic investments in network infrastructure.  We are the leading independent consultancy dedicated to achieving timely connections, at least cost and risk, to the GB electricity transmission and distribution networks.

Responsibilities and duties

  • Project managing VINS clients’ connections from feasibility to energisation
  • Improving VINS clients’ understanding of connections in order to support their improved connections-related decision-making
  • Coordination between RT’s engineers, its clients and the Network Operators
  • Developing relationships with DNOs, DSOs, TNOs and the ESO
  • Developing relationships with existing and prospective RT clients
  • Helping the RT team to effect change in commercial, technical and regulatory policy to enable RT clients’ connections and those of the wider connections community
  • Represent RT and its clients in Network Operators’ connections engagement forums and panels
  • Work alongside RT’s Operations department in respect of ongoing improvements to internal processes and procedures to ensure the team are working as efficiently as possible

  • Undertake such duties and responsibilities reasonably consistent with the role as may be required from time to time by the Company

Skills and experience to be successful

  • A proven track record in connections operations as the lead in-house resource across a range of technologies, for a leading developer and operator of large-scale schemes
  • Experience of managing network/power systems engineers
  • A track record of engaging with a range of Network Operators on connections policy and performance, including on connections steering groups and expert panels
  • Emotional intelligence and genuine empathetic nature necessary to bring the best out of both clients and Network Operators’ teams; and
  • Resilient and assertive enough to stand your ground for the good of RT, RT’s clients and the wider connections community
  • Highly organised with a keen eye for detail and a talent for developing robust and appropriate processes
  • Strong interpersonal and management skills
  • A self-starter and, crucially, a tenacious finisher of jobs
  • A broad understanding of commercial and regulatory connections policy (UK)
  • Passionate about a low carbon future
  • Desire to grow with RT and to help it accelerate decarbonisation at least cost
  • A strong team player who is keen to make a difference
