Connectologist® quoted on Ofgem’s plans to accelerate data centre connections
Utility Week asked industry figures for their reactions to Ofgem’s latest thinking on accelerating demand connections, including proposals around self-build high-voltage connections and a possible “backstop control measure” such as mandatory curtailment for data centres.
Rachael Eynon, one of Roadnight Taylor’s Connectologists®, welcomed the pace of Ofgem’s update, saying it should reassure developers that the class exemption and independent transmission owner licence options are progressing. She noted, however, that the proposals remain “quite light on resolution” for projects already in the queue, and that the prospect of backstop controls could leave developers in a difficult position when seeking firm-connection assurances for their customers.
