Kyle Murchie – Specialist Connections Engineer
“Influential leadership experience at both transmission and distribution”
Kyle specialises in securing grid connections for generation, storage and demand projects, with particular expertise in industrial decarbonisation and the new demand requirements of further electrification.
He has been closely involved in the Connections Reform process, sitting on working groups as an active observer and helping to shape one of the solutions that was ultimately approved by Ofgem. Since then, he has worked on refining and developing the methodologies that underpin reform on behalf of clients, either directly or through trade bodies.
Kyle has also been involved in a number of CUSC modifications and is currently Vice Chair of the RenewableUK Connections Working Group.
Track record
Kyle has 13 years of experience across both transmission and distribution. At SSE Thermal he led the connection of the 893MW Keadby 2 Power Station to the transmission network, coordinating Grid Code delivery activities with the Principal Contractor and engaging with NESO. At SSEN Transmission he managed a multi-disciplinary engineering team in the Project Engineering department, developing projects worth up to £1 billion and leading the grid aspects of projects of around £400 million through delivery and commissioning.
Earlier in his career Kyle held engineering and leadership roles at Electricity North West, UK Power Networks and TNEI Services, where he was Grid Team Lead and delivered a number of successful network innovation projects. He holds a Masters in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Strathclyde.
Off the clock
Outside work Kyle has an active interest in EV motoring and motorsport. He prepares and maintains his own competition race cars and has achieved success as the Northern Sports and Saloon Car Class Champion.
