Roadnight Taylor’s response to Ofgem’s Demand Connections Reform Call for Input makes Utility Week

Under the current interpretation of the Electricity Act 1989, demand users cannot own and operate high-voltage connection assets at transmission level. Generators face no such restriction. This creates real challenges for data centres, hydrogen projects, and hybrid energy parks looking to find more efficient engineering solutions and access a wider choice of connection points.

Catherine Cleary led on Roadnight Taylor’s response to Ofgem’s Demand Connections Reform call for input. In discussion with developers, we are proposing a potential Class Exemption so sites could own and operate sole-use transmission assets. You can read a full copy of our Class Exemption proposal submitted to Ofgem.

Tom Grimwood of Utility Week spoke to Catherine for more information.
