Connectologist® contributes to National Grid DSO’s curtailment estimator launch
National Grid’s Distribution System Operator (DSO) has launched a self-serve curtailment estimation tool, giving developers faster insight into potential curtailment risk when connecting to the network. The tool, which draws on live network data and the connections queue, enables customers to model different scenarios and receive a bespoke curtailment report in under five minutes.
Philip Bale, Specialist Connections Engineer at Roadnight Taylor, contributed early testing to the project. Philip welcomed the tool as a useful step, noting it gives developers a quick, higher-level understanding of curtailment risk, and will help determine some of the causes of constraint within certain networks and to understand what may need to change to reduce ANM-related risk. While not a complete solution, it represents a meaningful improvement in pre-application transparency for developers navigating flexible and curtailable connections.
